Curriculum

Silvia Cantele is Associate Professor of Business administration since April 2017. She received her PhD’s Degree in Business Management and Administration at the University of Verona in 2006. She has been certified as Chartered Accountant and Auditor in 2002.
 
Her main research interests are:
•    corporate social responsibility and sustainability      
•    sustainable business models             
•    sustainability reporting and non-financial disclosure in for profit organizations         
•    benefit corporations and B-Corp      
•    performance antecedents in firms and impact measurement           
•    business networks: antecedents, life-cycle and critical success factors
Her publications are mainly articles in national and international scientific journals (among them Sustainability and Journal of Cleaner Production).
Among her recent research projects: Sustainable supply chain orientation in the food industry (Fondazione Cariverona), CSR model for the restaurants business ecosystem (Regione Veneto, DGR 948/16).
She is member of the editorial board of the journal ““World review of entrepreneurship, management and sustainable development” since 2014, and reviewer for journals like Sustainability, Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal, International Journal of Sustainable Strategic Management, Azienda Pubblica, Management Control.
In 2015 she obtained the “Best Track Chair Award”, for the 8th Euromed Annual Conference.
 
With reference to Third Mission, in 2017 and 2018 she participated to Kids University and to several popular-scientific workshops on corporate social responsibility and Benefit Corporations destined to high school students and the public.

Sustainability reporting, measurement and stakeholder engagement
The research group aims at analysing the social, sustainability and non-financial disclosure processes and practices within different clusters of organizations.
Business networks: antecedents, life-cycle and critical success factors
The research group has the aim to analyse the phenomenon of business networks from the perspective of antecedents which enable the collaborative strategy and the expected outputs in terms of competitive advantages for the firms in the network; the research activity includes the analysis of network contracts, their distinctive features and their strengths and weaknesses.

The research group operates in the research fields of corporate sustainability (CS), corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable business models (SBM), by deepening the application of sustainable development principles in the business context

Performance antecedents in firms and impact measurement Study of antecedents of financial performance in firms belonging to different size and industry clusters. Among analysed determinants there are the effects of internationalisation, innovation, networking and cooperation, or sustainability implementation. Sustainable business models Deepening of scientific knowledge on business archetypes/models for sustainability, and also the tools which enable their implementation. Specific case studies of firms which have adopted sustainable management practices, created or converted the business through sustainability innovations, or implemented circular business models or inter-organisational forms of cooperation (business networks for sustainability) are analyzed, mainly through qualitative methodologies. Sustainability reporting and non-financial disclosure in for profit organizations Analysis of the social, sustainability and non-financial disclosure practices within different clusters of firms. The reporting analysis is conducted through qualitative and quantitative methodologies as well as few techniques (e.g., content analysis, scoring, discourse analysis) and place into relationships with firms’ features, their institutional context, the implementation of some kind of practices, and the attainment of outputs/performance results. The systems of accounting, strategic planning, budgeting and the indicators dashbords are investigated, put into relationship with the organisations’ features and the institutional context, and analysed with reference to their effectiveness and their impacts on universities’ performance. Benefit Corporations and B-Corp Study of the development of the Benefit Corporation in Italy and comparison with the US experiences. The facilitators and the factors that lead companies to change in the statute have been analysed, as well as the costs and obstacles encountered in this process. Special attention is paid to the integration of the "benefit" dimension into the business model and the development of transparency and reporting tools required by the law. The epistemological approach used involves the use of case studies and field studies supported by data collection through interviews, focus groups, and document collection.
