Vocational Studies

Rather than being valued primarily for their expertise, professionals are increasingly expected to meet standards of both effectiveness and efficiency. And increasingly professionals work as employees of large organizations where their status as independent professionals is less clear. One of the most extreme cases of transformation in professional work is visible in the case of Audiologists. As a result of technological advancements, their work changed dramatically from the mid-1900s, when they sold relatively untested remedies, to today, when dispense prepackaged, mass produced, quality-assured hearing aids are available.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the perceptions and expectations of these students in relation to three main aspects:

- their preference for the nature of their desired place of work (a national versus multinational company),
- their attitude towards an entrepreneurial work versus an employee position, and
- their preference for a technical vs professional work.
