Curriculum

Alessandro Lai is Full Professor of Accounting since 2001. He obtained the Ph.D. in Business Administration at the University of Ca’ Foscari of Venice in 1988. He has been lecturer and Assistant professor at the Catholic University in Milan (1987-1992), and Associate professor of Accounting in the University of Milan (1992-1995) and Verona (1995-2001). He is delegate for external relations for the Department of Business Administration, and Director of the Course to prepare to the profession of Chartered Accountant and to the activity of Statutory Auditor. From 1986 he has been professor in the Master of Agribusiness of the Catholic University. He is an Academic of the Accademia Nazionale Virgiliana, where he chairs the Moral Sciences Class. He is Vice-President of the Italian Society of Accounting History. He is President of the Foundation O.I.B.R. (Organismo Italiano di Business Reporting).
 
His major research interests are:
  • Accounting History
  • Integrated Reporting and Corporate Reporting
  • Corporate Governance e Accountability
He published in various international journals, including “Accounting History”, “Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal”, “Critical Perspectives on Accounting”, “Business Strategy and the Environment”, “Journal of Management and Governance”. He has also published some scientific monographs.
He coordinated (in the local venue) a funded national project (PRIN) on risks and participated to many funded research projects on accounting, accountability and corporate governance.
 
About the “Third Mission”, since 2016 he is a member of the Scientific Committee of the “Scuola di Alta Formazione dei Dottori Commercialisti delle Tre Venezie”, where he gives lectures.

Historical perspectives on accounting and governance
The research group aims to examine accounting and corporate governance issues in a historical perspective.
Financial reporting and International Financial Reporting Standards
The research group aims to analyse the main problems and possible solutions underlying the preparation of financial statements, also in relation to the application of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IAS/IFRS) by Italian companies.
Corporate governance, risk management and value creation
The research group aims to analyse the contribution of governance structures and/or risk management activities developed by companies on value creation processes and on the ways of risk exposure by stakeholders.
Entrepeneurship, business model and network
The purpose of the research group is to study entrepreneurship practices aimed at creating value.
Integrated reporting
The research group investigates the Integrated Report (IR) as an innovative paradigm of external reporting that allows to incorporate sustainability issues in a holistic view of the company, by combining financial and non-financial information.
Role of accounting and accountability in corporate governance
The research group aims at analysing the role of accounting and accountability systems in the enactment of governance prerogatives.
