Short description of contents:
The word “metaprofit” combines a traditional economic measure as the “profit” with the greek prefix “μετά” that have two different, but connected, meanings: beyond and through. In the managerial context, metaprofit means that profit is not the principal goal of an organization, but it is an organizational instrument -a crucial one- useful to reach any other goal in an efficient way. The notion of metaprofit overcomes the dichotomy between forprofit and non-profit and opens the possibility to consider organizations from an humanistic and holistic point of view. In this article the idea of metaprofit is developed at four different levels following the four constitutive aspects that can be distinguished in business ethics (Melé 2009): individual, managerial, organizational and societal.
